There are three Borda methodologies: the MBC is used in decision-making; QBS is an electoral system; and the matrix vote is used in governance.
- What are Voting Systems? Voting systems may be used in decision-making and/or in elections . In decision-making, the outcome is usually a single decision (or social choice), or a single complex (as in a budget), ...
- What is a modified Borda count, MBC? The MBC can be used in elections but is best used in decision-making. In decision-making, the outcome is usually a single decision (social choice) or a single complex (as in a budget). The MBC is a preference voting procedure by which is identified that option or those options which gain the highest average preference scores. In elections, the MBC can be used to elect one or more persons, but the MBC is not proportional, so for general elections etc, resort should be made to a QBS. - What is the Quota Borda System (QBS)? QBS is an electoral system only, and may be used whenever an electorate is electing more than one person. In a general election, it should be used in multi-member constituencies of about 5 seats with perhaps a regional/national top-up. See: http://www.deborda.org/faq/voting-systems/what-is-the-quota-borda-system-qbs.html
- What is the Matrix Vote? The matrix vote is used whenever a certain body - a parliament, an assembly, or any business, trades union, political party or community association at its AGM - wishes to elect a government, an executive, or an executive committee. It is ideally suited for the election of an all-party power-sharing cabinet. See: http://www.deborda.org/faq/voting-systems/what-is-the-matrix-vote.html?SSScrollPosition=221
